Apparently today was the first day of spring. Our days are pretty long now – quarter after eight in the morning to quarter to nine at night. And it only gets longer from here. The ice roads are still open until the end of the month, there is still plenty of snow on the ground, and the temperature has highs in the negative teens and lows in the negative twenties.

Yesterday’s kitchen reorganization inspired more kitchen reorganization. I organized our imported stash of grains and pulses into mason jars. The remaining mason jars are currently engaged with the lacto-fermentation of some red and green cabbage.

Then I made a fancy salad consisting predominantly of ingredients that are not available for purchase in Tulita (indicated with an *).
Salad: kale*, tri-coloured quinoa*, kidney beans*, mung beans*, navy beans*, corn, sundried tomatoes*, carrot, onion, almonds*
Dressing: olive oil, lemon & lime juice, maple syrup, chili garlic sauce*, dried cilantro*, sea salt*

We reorganized our den by moving the desk to the adjacent wall, and now we have tons of additional space! And in case all you would-be-visitors are concerned, yes, the couch still has space to fold down. And yes, it still has a functional built-in speaker system.

Maciek brought back some spice jars from Yellowknife, so now our spices are all organized too.
