It was Maciek’s birthday yesterday, so I made him a cake. No, it was not as exciting as the cake he made me for my birthday. Maciek is a big fan of spicy things, so I made a chocolate-chile cake with chocolate-jalapeño icing.

Maciek got me some Pat’s Backcountry Beverages for my birthday (not the most recent one, the one a year and a half ago). This is the first camping beer that’s been developed – it involves beer concentrate, a carbonator packet, and a mixing bottle with a strangely complex set of instructions.
I hadn’t actually tried it yet, so now seemed like as good a time as any, and Tulita sufficiently similar to being in the backcountry. So we tried a Pail Rail. Not too bad.

Churros are pretty easy to make. They don’t look as pretty without the pastry bag, but they taste the same!
