Greenhouse Cooking Workshops

Inuvik is very multicultural, which the greenhouse capitalized on this year to offer cooking workshops from various different places. Maciek and I were able to attend a couple of them, and it was very exciting to try new cuisines here in Inuvik!

We unfortunately missed out on the Nepalese, Filipino, and El Salvadoran workshops.

Alone

Exciting news: the most recent season of the hit survival TV show “Alone” was filmed right outside Inuvik! This has been one of the worst-kept secrets around town, but the season has finally begun so now everyone knows. The season was filmed last fall; I would guess starting last week of August / first week of September based on foliage and sunset time. We’ll see how far into winter the contestants last. It looks like it’s going to be a great season, and it’s a cool way for y’all to see the environment around Inuvik. The show keeps the contestants pretty close to town so that they can rescue them easily: I think the rule is within 15 minutes of a hospital. The base camp for this season (where the production crew stays) was at the Gwich’in wellness camp.

The Town of Inuvik and Gwich’in Tribal Council hosted a public screening of the first episode and the “before the drop” episode, which is about the preparatory week they do at base camp before going out to their sites.

Board Game Tournament

I hosted Inuvik’s first board game tournament. It took place over two days, 17 people attended, and we had prizes! I got too busy with board games though and forgot to take many pictures. We played three rounds of games of increasing complexity.
