Faye and Maciek's Adventures in the frosty Canadian North
High school graduation is a big deal here in Tulita – the town goes all out. They decorate the gym (this year’s theme was “Hollywood”), have a big ceremony, and a catered dinner. There were 7 graduates this year (which is a lot), and it was great to see how proud the students and the whole community were of this accomplishment.
The school is currently skinning, stretching and tanning some moose hides.
I tell people that there’s only one store in Tulita, but that’s only partially true. Some nights – usually weekends, but occasionally other nights – the Wright Store opens for a variable number of hours (you can find out if it’s open by walking by or checking the facebook group). It’s located in a small house and sells expensive junk food, pizza ($5.25/slice or $30/whole pizza), and a variety of other menu items:
The other competing store, BJ Services, is still going strong and has recently started a dinner menu. They have been planning to open a restaurant for a long time, so I guess we have arrived.
