Despite the current global situation, I managed to get my field work done this summer, which completes the final year of the grizzly bear DNA project. I had a bunch of cameras out this year and got some awesome photos of grizzly bears having a great time at the hair-snag stations.
Of course the cameras also capture pictures of other non-target species that come by to check out the stations.
One of my favourites this year was a station that had a family of black bears that came back every few days over the summer. Got to watch these cute little fellas growing up.
I spent much of my summer flying around the Mackenzie Delta in a helicopter, collecting grizzly bear fur from hair-snag traps in order to determine how many bears are in the area.
