Faye and Maciek's Adventures in the frosty Canadian North

We’ve got 10 staff members this summer (a record!), with an all-female staff.

We just finished our first field trip of the summer at the ever-scenic Grizzly Bear Lake (a.k.a. Nı́onep’eneɂ Tué or Backbone Lake).

We set up a lot of remote monitoring tools on this trip – bird recorders, wildlife cameras, temperature and light loggers.

The nearby hot springs – Sadéé Shúh Gaǫfáá (Sunlight Mountain Hot Springs) – are the only place in the NWT where Prunella vulgaris (Self-Heal or Heal All) is found.

We saw three species of loons (Common, Red-Throated, and Yellow-Billed), some nesting semipalmated plovers and ptarmigan, and a whole bunch of other birds.
